Day 1: Arrival in Moshi

  • Arrive in Moshi for an orientation, equipment check, and briefing.

Day 2: Londorossi Gate to Big Tree Camp (Mti Mkubwa)

  • Elevation: 7,800 ft to 9,500 ft
  • Distance: 6 km, 3–4 hours
  • Habitat: Rainforest
  • Begin trekking after registration at Londorossi Gate, enjoying lush forest scenery.

Day 3: Big Tree Camp to Shira 1 Camp

  • Elevation: 9,500 ft to 11,500 ft
  • Distance: 8 km, 5–6 hours
  • Habitat: Moorland
  • Transition to moorland with expansive views and camp at Shira Plateau.

Day 4: Shira 1 Camp to Moir Hut

  • Elevation: 11,500 ft to 13,800 ft
  • Distance: 14 km, 5–7 hours
  • Habitat: Moorland
  • Explore Shira Plateau, with optional acclimatization walks near Lent Hills.

Day 5: Moir Hut to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

  • Elevation: 13,800 ft to 13,000 ft
  • Distance: 7 km, 4–6 hours
  • Habitat: Semi-desert
  • Pass Lava Tower for high-altitude acclimatization before descending to Barranco Camp.

Day 6: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

  • Elevation: 13,000 ft to 13,100 ft
  • Distance: 5 km, 4–5 hours
  • Habitat: Alpine Desert
  • Climb the challenging Barranco Wall and reach Karanga Valley for acclimatization.

Day 7: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

  • Elevation: 13,100 ft to 15,300 ft
  • Distance: 4 km, 4–5 hours
  • Habitat: Alpine Desert
  • Short hike to Barafu Camp, where final preparations for the summit are made.

Day 8: Summit Attempt (Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp)

  • Elevation: 15,300 ft to 19,345 ft (summit) to 10,000 ft
  • Distance: 5 km ascent, 12 km descent, 10–16 hours
  • Habitat: Arctic
  • Midnight ascent to Uhuru Peak via Stella Point. Descend to Barafu and continue to Mweka Camp.

Day 9: Mweka Camp to Moshi

  • Elevation: 10,000 ft to 5,500 ft
  • Distance: 10 km, 3–4 hours
  • Habitat: Forest
  • Descend to Mweka Gate for certification and return to Moshi.
