DAY 1: ARUSHA – NGORONGORO CRATER – ARUSHA, 1-DAY TANZANIA PRIVATE BIG 5 SAFARI
Start your day with an early morning game drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, which takes up to 3 hours. Arrive at the conservation area gate in Ngorongoro, and after your driver has completed the paperwork, you will head to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
Ngorongoro is a special place because it is a nature reserve rather than a national park. This means that the entire area is farmed for both the animals grazing livestock alongside the wild animals and the local Maasai tribe. During your drive in Ngorongoro you will have the chance to see the Maasai way of life. Drive up the crater rim after stopping at the entrance gate where you have the opportunity to learn more about this fascinating volcanic landscape. The crater at the base of the world’s largest adjacent and unbroken caldera, also known as the Ngorongoro Crater.
Home to over 120 species of mammals, including the legendary Big Five, the Ngorongoro Crater Area is one of the world’s most desirable safari destinations. It’s a particularly good place to see the endangered black rhinoceros enjoying a solitary meal outside the grasslands, and it’s also the place to see large numbers of hippos enjoying the cool water. Spend the day on a game drive on the crater floor in search of tamed animals. From a convertible, you’ll see plenty of wildlife, including leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, and jackals (silverbacks). If you’re lucky, you might spot rare species such as caracals, leopards and black rhinos.
A picnic lunch is likely to be taken at the Hippo poolside picnic area, and you can also visit the washrooms and continue your afternoon game drive as you exit the Ngorongoro Crater. Drive around the crater rim in the late afternoon and return to Arusha where the safari ends again. That’s where the safari ends.
