Day 1: Machame Gate to Machame Camp

Your journey begins with a drive from your hotel to Machame Gate (1,800m/5,906ft), where you will complete park formalities and meet your guides and porters. The trek starts with a gentle ascent through the rainforest, where you may spot blue monkeys and exotic birds. The trail can be muddy, but the thick canopy provides a beautiful, shaded path to Machame Camp (3,000m/9,840ft), where you will spend your first night on the mountain.
