Our Kilimanjaro Group Trips are made for travellers who want to join a planned climb with a clear start date, an organised mountain crew and other people working toward the same summit goal. Rather than arranging every part of a private expedition, you choose a suitable departure, arrive in Moshi before the briefing, and begin the trek with your group.
Eddy Tours & Safaris offers fixed Saturday departures during 2026 and 2027. These trips are suitable for solo climbers, couples and friends who would like the shared atmosphere of a group while still receiving support from professional mountain guides, cooks and porters. Our team handles the operational arrangements on the mountain so that you can focus on training, packing well and walking at a safe pace.
Kilimanjaro rises to 5,895 metres at Uhuru Peak. It is a non-technical trek, but altitude, cold, long walking days and changing weather make it a serious undertaking. A fixed departure can make planning easier, yet your route length and preparation remain just as important as the date itself.
What a Set-Departure Group Trip Means
With Kilimanjaro Group Trips, the group has a planned starting date and follows one agreed itinerary. The mountain team, gate transfers, food plan and camp or hut logistics are organised for that departure. You share the journey with other climbers, but you are not expected to carry the burden alone: guides monitor the group, keep the pace controlled and conduct daily health checks according to mountain procedures.
Group travel also provides company at camp and on the trail. Many climbers arrive alone and leave with new friends after sharing several demanding days on the mountain. The group is there to encourage one another, but each person must still take responsibility for preparation, hydration, reporting symptoms and following guide instructions.
Every listed date is planned, not an automatic final confirmation. Before paying for flights, contact us so we can confirm the group status, route, current cost and any requirements for your selected departure.

Choose a Route Before You Set Your Date
The best Kilimanjaro Group Trips are not always the shortest ones. The route you choose affects accommodation, scenery, daily distance and the time your body has to acclimatise.
Marangu Route: hut accommodation, 5 or 6 days
Marangu is the only main Kilimanjaro route that uses mountain huts rather than tents. It is a popular option for climbers who prefer indoor sleeping accommodation. The route is direct and returns by the same path. While a five-day option exists, the six-day programme adds an acclimatisation day at Horombo Hut and is normally the wiser choice.
Machame Route: camping, 6 or 7 days
Machame is a scenic camping route that moves through rainforest, heath, moorland and alpine desert. It approaches the summit from the south and includes the Barranco Wall. The seven-day itinerary gives a more relaxed acclimatisation schedule than the six-day version and is recommended when your schedule allows it.
Lemosho Route: camping, 7 or 8 days
Lemosho begins on the western side of the mountain and crosses the Shira Plateau before joining the southern circuit. It is a strong choice for climbers who want wide open scenery and more time to adjust to altitude. The eight-day version is especially suitable for those new to high-altitude trekking.

When Should You Arrive in Moshi?
For all Kilimanjaro Group Trips, plan to arrive in Moshi at least one day before the trek starts. This gives time for a face-to-face briefing, equipment inspection and any final hiring of gear. It also protects your schedule if an international flight is delayed.
At the briefing, you meet the local team, review the route, check your clothing and receive advice on the next morning’s departure. Do not leave this until the day of the climb. A calm evening in Moshi, a good meal and adequate sleep are far more useful than rushing from the airport to the park gate.
After the trek, most climbers stay in Moshi for at least one night before travelling onward. This gives you time to rest, shower, collect your summit certificate where applicable and celebrate with the crew. If you are adding a Tanzania safari or Zanzibar holiday after the climb, we can help coordinate the connection through Eddy Tours & Safaris.
Best Time to Join Kilimanjaro Group Trips
January through early March and June through October are the main drier periods on Kilimanjaro. January and February are often warmer; June to October are generally cooler and busier. These months are popular for a reason, but they are not the only dates worth considering.
April and May often bring more rain, while November can have shorter rainy periods. A climb can still be completed then, but you need good waterproof clothing and realistic expectations about trail conditions and views. The better question is whether you have enough time to train and whether your chosen route gives you adequate acclimatisation days.
What Your Mountain Package Normally Covers
The exact services are stated in your quotation. In general, Kilimanjaro Group Trips include the mountain essentials: transport from Moshi to the gate and back, park entry and camping or hut fees, guides, porters, cooks, meals on the mountain, group camping equipment for camping routes and drinking water during the trek. Emergency oxygen is carried according to the operating procedures.
Personal gear, international flights, visa costs, travel insurance, tips for the crew, personal snacks and drinks not listed in the itinerary are generally separate. Ask for the full inclusion and exclusion list before confirming your booking. Clear information before departure helps everybody plan properly.
Fitness, Gear and Altitude
Train for at least eight to twelve weeks before your departure. Regular long walks, stairs, hill hikes, cycling and cardio exercise are all useful. Strengthen your legs, hips and core, and practise walking in the boots you will bring. New, untested boots are one of the easiest ways to create a problem on the mountain.
Pack layers rather than relying on one very thick jacket. You will need breathable base layers, insulation, a waterproof shell, gloves, a beanie, sun protection and a sleeping bag suitable for cold high-altitude nights. Trekking poles make the long descent easier on knees. Porters carry the main duffel within the allowed weight; you carry a small daypack with water, rain gear, snacks and personal essentials.
Altitude is the key challenge. High fitness does not make a person immune to altitude illness. Walk slowly, drink regularly, eat as well as possible and communicate honestly with your guide. If you have a headache, nausea, unusual tiredness or any concerning symptom, report it early. Safety comes before the summit. Speak with a qualified medical professional about your personal fitness and make sure your travel insurance covers high-altitude trekking and emergency evacuation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a solo traveller join a fixed departure?
Yes. Kilimanjaro Group Trips are ideal for solo travellers. You share the planned itinerary and mountain support with the group, without needing to form a private party first.
Are group trips cheaper than private climbs?
They can be more economical because certain logistics and crew arrangements are shared. The final cost still depends on the route, number of days, group size, travel season and included services.
Can I choose any Saturday in the table?
You can request any listed date, but we must confirm availability before you make final arrangements. Contact us first, especially if you are booking flights.
Is a summit guaranteed?
No. A responsible operator will never guarantee it. Your health, weather conditions, acclimatisation and guide assessment all matter. The priority is always a safe mountain experience.
