When you get at Machame Gate, the porters and guides finish the registration process and arrange the equipment for the next few days. As the woodland gradually thins, you may establish a comfortable rhythm as the trail softly but steadily climbs. You’ll reach Machame Camp, which is tucked away on the forest’s edge, after around six hours and 10.6 kilometres of hiking. DAY 2: Machame Camp to Shira Camp, 9-DAYS CLIMBING KILIMANJARO – MACHAME ROUTE IN 6-DAYS 2026/2027
After breakfast, we leave the glades of the rain forest and continue on an ascending path, crossing the little valley walking along a steep rocky ridge, covered with heather, until the ridge ends. The route now turns west onto a river gorge. Time for rest, dinner, and overnight at the Shira campsite.

From the Shira Plateau, we continue hiking to the east up a ridge, passing the junction towards the peak of Kibo. As we continue climbing, our direction changes to the South East towards the Lava Tower, called the “Shark’s Tooth.”

Beginning with the exhilarating scramble up the renowned Barranco Wall, a non-technical but exposed ascent that rewards you with expansive vistas of the mountain’s southern slopes, day four is a true test of mental toughness and physical endurance. After reaching the top of the wall, the trail meanders through a bizarre terrain of valleys and ridges before plunging into the Karanga Valley, where a rest stop provides time to refuel and enjoy the striking scenery. From Karanga, you will cross the intersection with the Mweka Trail and continue climbing steadily in the direction of Barafu Camp.
DAY 4 : Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp, 9-DAYS CLIMBING KILIMANJARO – MACHAME ROUTE IN 6-DAYS 2026/2027
After breakfast, we leave Barranco and continue hiking on a steep ridge passing the Barranco Wall, to the Karanga Valley campsite. Then, we leave Karanga and hit the junction which connects with the Mweka Trail.

DAY 5: Barafu Camp to Summit to Mweka Camp, 9-DAYS CLIMBING KILIMANJARO – MACHAME ROUTE IN 6-DAYS 2026/2027
Very early in the morning (midnight to 2am), we continue hiking our way to the summit between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers. You head in a northwesterly direction and ascend through heavy screed towards Stella Point on the crater rim.

The most demanding and fulfilling day of your Kilimanjaro journey is this one. With only the glow of headlamps illuminating the way ahead, you will set out in the very cold pre-dawn darkness and ascend slowly and steadily through dense scree toward Stella Point on the crater rim. The sight of the sun rising over the African plains below delivers an amazing boost of enthusiasm, but the altitude, cold, and exhaustion tax the body and spirit.
